Ira is a documentary about a high school social studies teacher who experienced the most defining moments in United States history. From the Vietnam War to 9/11, Ira tells his story.
I created the title card and poster with Paul Jensen, the director, and producer. Ultimately, Paul wanted something that was hand-done. I sketched "ira" over and over with different weights and cursive styles. After several rounds of sketches and Paul's direction, we settled on a bold, and swoopy lowercase "ira" with a subtle glow effect.
The idea behind the poster was to create Ira's silhouette out of a collage with images reflecting moments in his life. Parts of his face and body were overlayed on top so he is intertwined with his own history. The collage was done by hand and the ripped images of Ira's face and body were constructed digitally. Lots of time was spent constructing things by hand, scanning, and digitally assembling the final image.
